Možnosti produkce a využití medicínského konopí na českém trhu
Kristen, Alan
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of medical cannabis treatment in the Czech Republic. The first part of the thesis discusses cannabis from the point of view of history, taxonomy, where the cannabis plant is described, and morphology, where the main active substances contained in cannabis are defined and described. The objective of the analytical part of the work was to evaluate the development of the medical cannabis commodity vertical and to compare the results with the situation in the State of Israel. The thesis chronologically shows the process of making medical cannabis available to patients in the Czech Republic and Israel, including legislative developments in both countries. The evaluation of the development of the vertical was carried out on basis of the collection of selected statistical data of individual countries during the past years, and subsequently a graphic comparison was created to determine the difference in the approaches to cannabis treatment of the two mentioned states. In the conclusion, the development of the production and consumption of medical cannabis in the Czech Republic is evaluated in comparison with the situation in the State of Israel.
Administration of medication in hospital wards
Fuková, Tereza ; Hošťálková, Monika (advisor) ; Pavlíková, Pavla (referee)
This thesis concerns the administration of medication in hospital wards. The theoretical section describes the process followed by the nurses, the most common types of medication, and drug classification. The thesis then assesses the level of pharmacological and legal knowledge among the nursing staff, and the incidence of clinical mistakes. The data was obtained by means of a 19- question questionnaire, in a survey of 100 nurses in medical, surgical, geriatric and psychiatric wards. Key words: Nurse, medicine, medicament, administration of medication, hospital ward
Dose-response curves

Title: Dose-response curves Author: Martin Hezoučký Department: Department of Probability and Mathematical Statistics Supervisor: doc. RNDr. Zdeněk Hlávka, Ph.D., Department of Probability and Mathematical Statistics Abstract: In this thesis, we deal with the process of research and development of new medical substances with a focus on statistical methods used to determine appropriate doses. For this purpose, we examine the dose-response relationship. First, we describe a typical procedure for the development of a new drug. Second, we focus in detail on the MCP-Mod method. Third, we propose a new method based on the theory of gradual change models. This approach tests whether the administration of the drug has a significant effect. If so, the dose with desired effect is estimated using an appropriate model. Specifically, we provide an esti- mate using linear, quadratic and Emax gradual change models. We also describe a construction of a confidence interval for the point of change and also for the dose with the desired effect. The advantage of the proposed method over the MCP-Mod is the determination of the confidence intervals. Finally, we apply the above mentioned methods to data from the U.S. Tox21 research program and compare the results based on several tested substances and clearly demonstrate the...
Food as a medicine. Eating and its effect on immunity and quality of life.
Keith, Radim ; Prokop, Jiří (advisor) ; Mojžíšová, Jarmila (referee)
For each of us, health is the most important thing, so that we can live a full life. How to proceed and what principles to follow when choosing foods, when there are many currently containing hazardous chemicals used in the food industry? Healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle are important. Cooking from basic ingredients and strengthening the immune system, from the childhood. However, it is never too late for adults. We can start anytime. I would like to show almost all aspects of quality eating, but also the other side, and the dangers of chemically modified food and the overall impact on quality of life. KEYWORDS Food, health, vegetables, fruit, vitamins, minerals, life, fementation, azo dyes
Resistance of Trichomonas vaginalis and other anaerobic pathogens to metronidazole
Havelka, Michal ; Tachezy, Jan (advisor) ; Rada, Petr (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to desbribe mechanisms of resistance to metronidazole in three anaerobic eukaryotic pathogens (T. vaginalis, G. intestinalis, E. histolytica). Diseases caused by these pathogens belong to the list of important but currently neglected diseases. Metronidazole acts only on microbes with an anaerobic metabolism. The drug enters the cell by passive diffusion and needs to be activated by reduction of the nitro group. Mechanisms of activation are different for every pathogen. Enzymes bound with energetic metabolism in hydrogenosomes, cytosolic thioredoxin reductase and nitroreductases play a major role in the activation. The drug damages cells in three ways - DNA damage, formation of covalent bonds with proteins, and covalent bonds with thiols. Pathogens have specific mechanisms to defend themselves against the drug. They can either down-regulate enzymes that activate metronidazole, reduce it to non-reactive aminoimidazole or they can increase the intracellular concentration of oxygen which leads to deactivation of the drug by futile cycling. These mechanisms are bound with physiological changes and subsequently with lowered viability of these pathogens. Furazolidone and benzimidazole derivatives are the best candidates to become an alternative to metronidazole for the...
Exaggerated male tail length and sexual selection in birds
Záleská, Josefína ; Albrecht, Tomáš (advisor) ; Klvaňová, Alena (referee)
Elongated tail feathers and tail coverts of birds are used as a textbook example of exaggerated secondary sexual characters evolved through sexual selection via female choice. The female tendency to prefer males with the most elaborate ornaments can be explained on the basis of a positive genetic correlation between the preference and the ornament. Alternatively, an elaborated ornament can indicate good quality and heritable viability of the male and therefore, choosing the most ornamented male, the female chooses for "good genes" for her offsprings. Sexual ornaments can impose negative effects on a different aspect of the individual's life. The compensation for these disadvantages should be enhanced reproductive success of the ornamented males. This thesis aims to summarize main findings of the role of elongated tail feathers in sexual selection in birds, concerning their effects on viability and atractivity of males in different mating systems. It provides an illustrating overview of the occurrence of elongated tail feathers in birds, and puts together available evidence of fitness benefits associated with elongated tail feathers in males. Despite a pervasive interest in the signalling function of tail feather ornaments in birds, most research focuses on only a few model taxa, with often...
